Supporting RAF veterans to maintain their independence

Many of our personal alarm customers are armed forces veterans whose lives have been enhanced by the reassurance a personal alarm provides.

Retired Squadron Leader A. Garretts MBE had an impressive and varied 30-year career in the RAF. Mr Garretts first got an alarm from Taking Care when his wife became unwell some years ago.

The alarm gave him and his family peace of mind that help was always available when needed and allowed Mr Garretts to pop to the shops without the fear of leaving his wife alone.

How the personal alarm service works

Not everyone has family or friends who live nearby and can respond in an emergency, or you may not want to rely on them. A personal alarm provides reassurance for you and your family.

Getting help as quickly as possible greatly reduces the risk of prolonged hospitalisation in the event of a fall or medical emergency.

Our Emergency Resolution Team can help the emergency services prioritise ambulance call-outs based on the medical information you share with us.

    Get help in an emergency

Our UK-based Emergency Resolution Team is one of the major reasons why our personal alarms offer true peace of mind.

We aim to answer alarm calls within 30 seconds, so you can be confident of getting help quickly, any time of the day or night.

No alarm call goes unanswered. Unlike some other personal alarm providers who might just answer your emergency calls, we're committed to resolving them.

We'll get help for you and keep in touch until the emergency is resolved.

Support for a wide range of emergencies

A personal alarm can be used for any situation where you need help or reassurance. This includes medical emergencies, feeling unwell, injuries, or if you feel unsafe or distressed.

It can also be used in home emergencies, such as a fire, flood, burst pipe or suspected intruder. You don’t need to rely on friends or family being available, as help is always there when you need it.

This means you can live independently with confidence, knowing support is always available day and night.

    Order with peace of mind

Join our life-saving personal alarm service with confidence. You can return your personal alarm free of charge within 30 days, and we will refund the full cost of your order.

If you, or the person you are buying the alarm for, are disabled or have a condition that requires regular medication, you do not need to pay VAT on your personal alarm.

    Frequently asked questions

What is a personal alarm and how does it work?

A personal alarm is a small wearable device that connects you to a 24-hour Emergency Resolution Team at the press of a button.

When the alarm is activated, a trained operator speaks with you through the device and arranges help if needed, such as contacting a family member, neighbour or the emergency services.

    Who answers the alarm call?

When a personal alarm is activated, the call is answered by a trained operator in a 24/7 alarm monitoring centre. The operator will speak with you through the alarm and arrange the right help based on your situation and emergency contacts.

How quickly do you answer alarm calls?

Our UK Emergency Resolution Team aims to answer alarm calls within 30 seconds, so you’re not left waiting when you need help. You’ll be connected to a trained team member who can speak with you straight away and arrange the right support.

What happens if I can’t speak when I press the alarm?

If you press your alarm and are unable to speak, our team will still know who you are and where you are calling from. They will follow your agreed emergency plan and arrange help, including contacting your emergency contacts or the emergency services if needed.

    What happens if I fall?

If you fall, you can press the alarm button to connect with the response team, who will speak with you and arrange help if needed.

If you have a fall alarm, it can automatically send an alert if a fall is detected, even if you cannot press the button yourself.

How easy is it to set up a personal alarm?

Setting up a personal alarm is quick and straightforward. Most alarms simply need to be plugged in and tested by pressing the button to connect to the Emergency Resolution Team.

Clear instructions are provided, and our team is always available if you need help.

What happens if I press the alarm by mistake?

If the button is pressed accidentally, the Emergency Resolution Team will simply check that you are safe. You can let them know it was a false alarm and no further action will be taken.

Most alarms also let you cancel a false alarm call.

Are personal alarms easy to use?

Yes. Our alarms are designed to be simple to use, with a single button to call for help. They are lightweight, comfortable to wear and require very little technical knowledge.

Who qualifies for VAT exemption on a personal alarm?

If you have a long-term illness or disability, you may be eligible for VAT exemption, which could save 20% on the cost of your personal alarm. Many people qualify if a medical condition affects daily life or mobility.

When you order, we will guide you through the simple process of claiming VAT exemption. Find out more about VAT exemption and applicable medical conditions.

Do I need a landline for a personal alarm?

No. Modern digital alarms work using mobile networks, so they do not require a landline or internet connection.

Do personal alarms work without WiFi?

Yes. Most personal alarms use mobile networks or digital base units rather than WiFi. This means the alarm continues working even if your home internet connection is unavailable.

Will my alarm work outside the home?

Some alarms are designed for use at home, while GPS alarms work wherever you go in the UK, as long as there is mobile network coverage.

Is a personal alarm better than a mobile phone in an emergency?

A personal alarm can be easier to use in an emergency because it is worn at all times and works with a single button press. Unlike a mobile phone, there is no need to unlock the device, search contacts or dial a number to get help.
